The life of an artist is really all about taking your first step whether you feel like you are ready to or not.
So, for example, this post here is a living, breathing example of that, it's my first blog entry! I am an Actor and an Improviser and a Producer of short films. I love to create things that are typically a little left of center and have heart. I am also an art painter that has no training and yet I've sold many of my paintings. I've dabbled in all types of creativity and the only thing that I am sure of at this point is that the most important thing that anyone who wants to live a creative life can count on is that you get out of it what you put in to it. That is one simple thing but that one thing encompasses a lot of topics and practices. Fear not, once you start you will figure them out as you go. My bullet points for living a creative life go like this: 1) What do you really love doing? 2) Do that. 3) Start now. Literally. Right now. Notice that I don't put in any "get the right training at expensive / prestigious school" steps or any "ask your parents / society / your friends for permission" steps or even any "be realistic, do something that is safe and wait until you are 65 and have (maybe) earned enough money and then do it then" steps. Based on my real life / real world creative living experience, the best thing to do is "JUST START". Start right from where you are. For better or worse. Take one small action in the direction that you want to move and whether or not that works out take another step after that and another step after that. And keep going. Onward forever. There's my new action for the day, more to come! www.imdb.me/gregoryhoyt
